Statement by the Saint Andrew the First-Called Foundation in connection with the situation around the Monastery of Vatopedi

Written by Valery. Posted in Network

The Saint Andrew the First-Called Foundation expresses its most profound concern inconnection with the decision by the Council of the Athens’ Court of Appeals to place inpreliminary detention the Father Superior of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi (MountAthos), Archimandrite Yefrem in pursuance of the case involving the trade of real estate betweenthe Monastery and the State. We regard the aforesaid actions by the judicial authorities of thecountry that by its Constitution regards itself as Orthodox as an impermissible step to politicizethe judicial decision. We consider that such judicial decisions may be explained only by thepolitical engagement of certain circles of the Greek establishment who wish, in this way, todemonstrate to the West their desire to depart from the principles of organizing spiritual life aslaid down in the Constitution of Greece. We express our special indignation over the fact that the actions of the judicial authoritiesare aimed at a spiritual leader, one of the most highly respected persons of Mount Athos, anelderly and ailing person. We address our words of support also to the Holy Synod, theEcumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, all Heads of local OrthodoxChurches, to all followers of the Orthodox faith to speak out in defense of Father SuperiorYefrem who is being persecuted in a manner that cannot be compared, in any way, to the formalcause of organizing the trial. It is with a feeling of profound bewilderment that the decision toplace Archimandrite Yefrem in detention was made soon after Father Superior Yefrem returnedfrom Russia to which he had brought one of the greatest Holy relics – the Belt of the VirginMary – that is preserved in the Monastery of Vatopedi - a relic which with the help of the SaintAndrew the First-Called Foundation more than three-and-a-half million of our countrymen hadkissed the glass-covered Holy relic. We a profoundly concerned with the fate of this man whomwe love so dearly and these feelings of ours are shared by millions of followers of the Orthodoxfaith. The Saint Andrew the First-Called Foundation firmly believes that the property disputebetween the Vatopedi Monastery and the Greek Government should be settled objectively andwithout bias. The drastic juridical action against Father Superior Yefrem can only arouserevulsion and contempt of the entire Orthodox society in Russia which had demonstrated itsunity during the visit of the Belt of the Virgin Mary. We call upon the Greek authorities and the public to demonstrate their solidarity and tothwart the unjustified and unmotivated decision to place in detention a man who by the force ofhis mission and his spiritual principles has never shunned Greek justice since his absoluteconviction of the righteousness of his stand. It is our firm demand not to allow the trampling ofthe principles of an honest, objective and democratic court of law. We and the Greeks are united by spiritually kindred bonds and the historical origins ofOrthodoxy. It is always with a feeling of sincere joy and happiness that we view the achievementof our spiritual brethren and it is with pleasure that we visit Greece as the bearer of the historicaland spiritual traditions of Byzantium. We have always taken close to heart those troublesomesituations that have come up in Greece, but we also urge the people of Greece to demonstratetheir unity in the face of trials and tribulations, and not to allow the washing out of the spiritualfoundations of the life of society. Rhodes 2011 – Time to shine, Time to Pretend

Written by Hakob Gabrielyan. Posted in Network

“Incredible, amazing, awesome, unbelievable, stunning, terrific” – the minimal description for the event of the year, which was held in Rhodes Island during 5 days from 10th to 14th of October. All this is hardly to imagine for 5 days, but believe me and believe those 150 participants who every day put maximum efforts to realize their ideas in the life, that was really fantastic. To meet new interesting, smart people and old friends, to be able and have an opportunity and privilege to say own opinion for the world, for the bright future; to develop practical skills through participation in conferences and interactive games – what can be better? And mostly interesting – all that process was screening live in Internet, so other participants from all over the world and just people who were interested in the event but were not able to present physically in Rhodes had a possibility to watch it in online regime!

Prague Conference - reportPrague Conference - report We came to the end of another successful conference organized by the «Youth time» movement, which finally has concluded with resolution. The goals were set, now we are starting a business which will bring us working together. To this end, I will explain you about what exactly has happened in Prague.

Participants of the conference, about twenty of them, began to arrive on Thursday, and official part of presentation began on Friday. Organizers have set up 3 main themes all in order to define our vision and mission:Rhodes Youth Forum, Magazine and Web site «Youth time» and Youth movement «Youth Time».

Julia led the discussion and all participants were involved in «Brainstorming» which has only confirmed the previous idea that the whole movement must be based on the active participation of young people. Towards the end of the official part the participants were divided into two groups, one that has gathered all the ideas into a draft resolution and the other which discussed the Magazine and Web site as well as various software solutions aimed at improving accessibility for the young people. The evening was reserved for social activities in order for participants to get know each other better.

The next day participants had the honor of meeting and accompanying Mr. Vladimir Yakunin to the round table, where they went through the draft of conference’s resolution and analyzing each task we believed should be included into the official resolution of «Youth Time» movement. The result of our two-day meeting was an official resolution where our movement has shifted from ideas to action. Furthermore, the adopted resolution, signed by all participants of the conference, was presented at gala dinner in “Troya Castle”. The event organizers have also reminded us about the success of “Rhodes Youth Forum” (3-6 October 2010) and all other past activities related with World Public Forum “Dialogue of Civilizations”.

On the sidelines of the session we have discussed lot of about future meetings and activities, about which you will be officially notified by the organizers. One of the surprises on Conference was also a new issue of the magazine «Youth Time». To conclude, I would like to thank all participants for their contribution during the Conference, it is always a great pleasure to work with you. I would also like to thank the organizers of the conference for making this amazing event happen. We all are highly optimistic about “Youth time’s” future as a movement and we are looking forward to all other future activities.
